Martin Armstrong argues that global tensions are rising simultaneously across multiple hotspots — Ukraine, the Middle East, India–Pakistan, China–Taiwan, the Koreas, and more — and says the pattern resembles the unstable pre–World War I era. He claims NATO is especially dangerous in this context because it can pull multiple countries into conflicts they didn’t start, and argues the alliance should have been dissolved after the Soviet Union collapsed — but institutions, once created, fight to preserve their power, budgets, and relevance.
Armstrong then makes a series of controversial assertions about Ukraine diplomacy: he says Russia is not a direct threat to Europe, claims the Minsk agreements were signed but not intended to be honored by key Western leaders, and argues that potential peace efforts were derailed — including claims that Boris Johnson pressured Ukraine away from a deal. His broader conclusion: confrontation is politically useful as a distraction from economic problems, and he argues parts of the security establishment have incentives to prolong it.
