What if you walked into a pediatrician’s office and asked a simple question:
Based on evidence you could defend in court, are these vaccines necessary — and are they safe and effective?
In this highlight, Aaron Siri argues most pediatricians couldn’t responsibly guarantee that, because (he claims) the kind of pre-approval safety trials and large post-approval safety studies needed for that certainty aren’t there in the way parents assume.
He then applies the same “risk vs. benefit” logic to specific examples:
Hepatitis B in low-risk newborns (mothers not hep-B positive): he repeats the “vaccinate ~100,000 to prevent 1 chronic case” argument and says harms may exceed benefits in that group.
HPV vaccines: he claims a key difference is that older children can clearly report symptoms, and that parents who look beyond official messaging often encounter very different accounts.
Siri closes with practical advice for parents:
Ask officials to accept responsibility in writing if they’re so confident.
Ask your pediatrician to show the trial(s) used for approval.
And if mandates are justified by “protecting others,” ask how that works if a product doesn’t stop transmission.
He also mentions the 1986 U.S. liability framework, arguing it creates a unique accountability problem compared to other medical products.
