In this highlight, Ivelin Mihailov discusses what he expects from Bulgaria’s new government on issues such as “woke” ideology, digital currency, cash, and social breakdown.
He says Bulgaria did not follow some of the Western cultural trends seen elsewhere: churches stayed open during COVID, the Istanbul Convention was not accepted, and LGBT propaganda in schools was restricted. But when the conversation turns to CBDCs and the digital euro, Mihailov says Bulgaria faces a different problem: a large part of the population still depends on cash because of debt, enforcement actions, and informal work.
He argues that a forced digital-money system would be almost impossible to impose without pushing huge numbers of people out of the country. He then paints a much darker picture: local mafia networks, police protection, depopulation, functional illiteracy, drugs, gambling, vulgar television culture, and a society being systematically degraded.
