In this highlight, Ivelin Mihailov explains why he believes his party, Velichie, failed to enter the council despite its work against what he calls Bulgaria’s oligarchic-mafia model.
He argues that many voters turned to Rumen Radev not because of election fraud, but because they saw him as a possible “savior” with enough power and resources to change the system. Mihailov rejects the media label that Radev is simply a “new Orbán” or a pro-Russian politician. In his view, Bulgarian politics is not driven by ideology — but by money.
He also makes a sharp claim about the war in Ukraine: Bulgarian politicians, he says, profit from weapons, oil, intermediaries, and wartime supply chains while publicly performing ideological theatre for voters.
